Smokin' Jim's Roadside Smokehouse is a food stall/food stand located on Limekiln Pike that specializes in BBQ creations. Giving back has been in the recipe from the start 🥰
Leading into our Smokin' Jim's Turns 5 celebration on Saturday, May 9th, we'll be taking a trip down memory lane every Thursday to share how far we've come!

💚🖤 Giving Back to Causes Close to Our Hearts 💙💛❤️

Before we ever had a permanent home, we already knew one thing for sure: If Smokin’ Jim’s was going to be part of this community, then giving back had to be part of who we were.

It showed up early in the driveway days and pop-ups, then grew through brewery fundraisers, matched donations, nonprofit partnerships, dine-and-donates, and special events that meant something bigger than dinner.

Over the years, we’ve been proud to support causes and organizations including The AJ Foundation for Children With Autism, College Settlement Camp through Blackthorn Rugby's MKS Fund, Angelina’s Song, Cancer Support Community Greater Philadelphia, Team Mustachio and the National MS Society, the Blackthorn and Brandywine Rugby communities, Conshy Baseball & Softball, and more.

Some nights were for nonprofits. Some nights were for local teams. Some nights were for friends and families who needed support.

All of it mattered to us. Still does.

The food may be what brings people in, but the bigger story has always been about community. Every time you grabbed dinner and helped support something bigger, you were part of that too.

When Smokin’ Jim’s started, it was a driveway, a smoker, and a whole lot of passion, but one of the coolest parts of these last five years has been seeing just how far this little smokehouse could go.

From pop-ups and beer gardens to fundraisers, special events, and catering, Smokin’ Jim’s grew from “come find us this weekend” into “bring Smokin’ Jim’s to your people," and that’s been one of our favorite parts of the ride.

We’ve loved showing up for your celebrations, your community events, your tailgates, your big days, your hungry crowds, and all the reasons people gather around good food. And no matter where we go, the goal’s always the same: serve something we’re proud of, make people happy, and leave them full in the best possible way.

Five years in, we’re proud of how far Smokin’ Jim’s has come and thrilled to have been even a small part of your celebrations, big and small. And we’re fired up for wherever the smoker takes us next. Then the dream got an address 🧱
Leading into our Smokin' Jim's Turns 5 celebration on Saturday, May 9th, we'll be taking a trip down memory lane every Thursday to share how far we've come!

🏡 A Home in Glenside 🏡

After the driveway days, the pop-ups, and all the “where are you guys gonna be this weekend?” messages, 2021 gave us something huge: A home.

Opening in Glenside was the moment this dream stopped feeling temporary. When we opened the take-out window outside Chick Orlando’s Edge Hill Tavern at 32 Limekiln Pike, it meant more than having a place to serve food. It meant taking a leap. It meant planting roots. It meant believing this thing we built with all of you could really last.

We still remember the excitement of that first opening night on May 14, 2021 — the nerves, the pride, the feeling that everything was changing.

And in a lot of ways, it did.

Glenside gave us a place to grow: Friday nights, weekly customers who became family, Chickie's Beer Garden days, catering, special events, and a whole lot of memories in between. But even with a real home, we never wanted to lose what made Smokin’ Jim’s feel like Smokin’ Jim’s in the first place.

Five years into this story, we’re still proud every time we fire up the smoker and can't wait to spend another 5 years with all of you. We'd love to hear your favorite Glenside memories of the shop in the comments.

Leading into our Smokin' Jim's Turns 5 celebration on Saturday, May 9th, we'll be taking a trip down memory lane every Thursday to share how far we've come!

😷 The COVID Origin Story 😷

Six years ago, the world was upside down, and somehow a backyard smoker turned into something much bigger than we ever expected.

On May 9, 2020, we invited friends and family to drive thru for pulled pork sandwiches, potato salad, and cole slaw for a suggested donation of $5 that would all be donated to charity and hoped a few people might stop by.

Then 119 of you showed up.

Soon, we were hosting "pop-ups" with our friends at McAllister Brewing Company, The Lannutti Post & Social Club, and Chick Orlando's Edge Hill Tavern, and what started as “we like smoking meat and want to do some good” started feeling like maybe this crazy little idea had legs.

Smokin’ Jim’s was born in a strange time, but it was built on something solid from day one: good food, good people, and a community that showed up when it mattered most.

We’ll never forget that first driveway event, those early pickups at our house for friends, the pop-ups, the uncertainty, or the way you all made us believe this dream could become real.

From our Conshy driveway to six years later…thank you for being there at the beginning. If you were at one of those first events, we'd love to hear from you by dropping a memory in the comments.
