I finally got a chance to sit down and post about this weekend at the Keystone Classic BBQ competition.
It was a great weekend hanging out with our . We always love setting up near our good friends Philly Blind Pig and Bogg's Hog BBQ. Hanging out on Friday with these folks is so much fun!
We had a good cook. I tweaked a couple of things and had entries I was happy with.
On to awards. We got a call (6th) in chicken and we're so happy to get a call.
Then something totally unexpected happened - 1st in ribs, and 8th in brisket. Getting multiple calls was mind blowing!
They started reading overalls and they got to Reserve Grand Champion. "Bubba's Barbecue!"
I could not believe it!! We are so thrilled to hear our name called!
Congratulations to Drilling and Grilling on getting GC, and to all who heard their name called.

Thank you to our sponsors - Gunter Wilhelm for our wickedly sharp knives and to Relax:Float Spa for getting mind and body feeling great.

So, we are back from our second BBQ competition- BBQ Gives Back, in Urbanna, VA.
We had quite the adventure getting down there. Our RV broke down and we had almost given up on competing here. We regrouped, and made it down a day later.
Our cook went pretty smoothly, all things considering.
As to our scores- we went from DAL to middle of the pack against a VERY strong field.

Our shining moment was our 6th place Brisket call!!
So happy to have Amy Linde Papatolis to share this journey with me.
It was great hanging out with our friends - Craig Rudzenski, Christina Lynn, Tom Bera, Nathan Stout, Greg and Karryl Boggs, and Steve and Christin Caputo. And a congrats to Boggs Hogs for various awards this weekend -
1st place Steak and a Golden Ticket for the SCA competition, various high scores and 3rd Place Overall on Day 2!!
Thank you to our sponsor- Gunter Wilhelm- for the wickedly sharp cutlery which helped with making trimming of our meats a breeze!

So, 2020 has been... well, there are no words to describe it. One of the many effects of Covid 19 has been the cancellation of many events, including many BBQ competitions. We are at Smoke in the Grove, in Spring Grove , PA. This is our second competition of the season. The most important takeaway I have gotten from this year is how important friends are. I have connected with people here that I would not know otherwise. I count them as part of my BBQ family.
We will post placement in a later post. I want to thank my sponsors for sticking by not just us but all of the teams they sponsor. Among them, Gunter Wilhelm Cutlery, BBQ Guru, Smithfield Meats, Grill Grates and Make it Meaty.
Stay safe, everyone.
