What a loss. We will miss Isaiah. His art is singular. But even more so, he was a champion of others. When we opened we had hoped so much to have work by him at our pizza museum that included an homage to him in a corner of his own legendary pizza mural hung in our courtyard. Then having heard of us, he literally just showed up one day and began creating his own inspired rift on us and pizza. He abutted his piece alongside the painted reference to his work in Hawk’s mural. It was just the most magical set of moments. We’d sit in the courtyard watching him create while telling us stories of the early days of using South Street as a canvass as a form of protest, calling attention to a forgotten part of Philly almost destroyed for a highway. He showed us the way with and married his voice into our own artistic effort. We shall miss him but be forever grateful for the mural legacy he left Philly. Love to him and to his family in their time of loss.
