Ongoing ideas for first time planning an event.
After speaking with some professionals now you should site down and get serious about booking a venue and caterer. Narrow your list down and make any appointment. Thins I would look for would be how much you like the banquet room and the person you will be dealing with, a quote that has all the details you are looking for plus information on deposit, final payment, and when they will need your final information. Be sure to ask about a room for the Bride to get ready in, charges like cake cutting, staff, gratuities. Remember, nothing is for free so when the caterer starts making suggestions be sure to ask how much and get it on the proposal. Alsdo remember there will be items that you have and want at the reception. Do you get to come earlier that day to set things up or will the venue take care of it and if so how much will it cost. If you need your ceremony to take place at the venue ask how they do these things (separate room, fees, set up and breakdown etc.) I hope this is helpful. Maybe next time we can talk about the acutual day of the reception and what you should expect.

If you have been following our last couple of posts regarding hiring a professional caterer, this next one is where you can get down to eliminating the fakers and shorten your list of pros. Contact the businesses on your list. Set up a meeting with them. This will allow you to get an idea of the kind of person you will be dealing with for your important event, check out their banquet room and go over kk the options they offer. Be sure to keep notes on who you met and what catering company they represent. It can get confusing if you speak wsith a lot of people. When you meet the catering representative you will know if their personality is one that you enjoy. I think this is important because you will be dealing with this person for months and you want to have a good relationship with someone you like personally. If things re going good with a few companies now is the time to set up a tasting. Ask what their policy is for this and set it up.
Next time I will talk about settling on a caterer, contracts and menus.

Continuing with ideas about choosing a professional caterer for your event or reception, here is something I personally do when going to a restaurant. I like to check the local county health department records. Most counties including Bucks and Philadelphia offer on their web site a simple way to see recent facility reports. All you need is the address of the caterer or the commissary they use. Of course it is rare when you have a health department report that is perfect. There could be some little things that need to be corrected. In my opinion it is when you look at 2 or 3 reports for the same facility and the same problems are listed it sends a red flag that the operators do not take sanitation or serving safe food seriously. Also, sometimes a catere may not have a professional kitchen or commissary to prepare food. That can be a problem because working from a personal house does not always allow you to have the approved equipment to prepare and hold food that is to be served to the public.
Of course, I invite you to go to the Busks County Heath Department web site and look up M.E.I. Catering, Twining Hall and Heritage Hall to see what a real good report looks like.
An please call me when planning your wedding or any other type of event.

If you are planning a party or reception and It is the first time you are using a professional caterer, it can be overwhelming. There are so many caterers in the area how will you be able to choose the best one form you? First and maybe the best would be a recommendation from a family member or friend. Nothing is better to know what someone else has experienced with a pro. Second would be to check out any legitimate reviews on line and see what other people think about a particular professional. This is a great place to start but there are many other things to consider. Please look for other posts with some ideas that may help your decision. Or call M.E.I. Catering and speak with a reputable professional from the beginning.

An e mail I received this morning from an event we did last Friday.
Nick,
I just wanted to add to Fr Chris' comments. Everyone loved the food. People raved about the appetizers and the turkey. The desserts were also delicious. I really wanted to talk about the crew. They were amazing!!! Each one was professional, yet friendly. They knew how to watch the room and put the food out at the right times and began cleaning up at the right time. No one felt rushed to leave which sometimes happens when clean up begins. From my perspective, they seemed to enjoy working together which really promoted an inviting atmosphere.
Thank you just doesn't seem enough.

The monday after a busy weekend I try my best to follow up with our guests and ask them if things were satisfactory. Here is a response from last Sunday. You may want to check out our reviews on google, Yahoo, the knot, etc. and contact me to book your next event.
It was more than satisfactory, it was absolutely perfect! There were more servers and bartenders than I thought so I will be dropping off additional tip money soon (I only had a set amount of cash on me). And there were about a dozen people or so who said they’d love to book your hall for future events. Food was great, desserts were devoured lol. I couldn’t have asked for better. Thank you again.

Here is a long e mail. It is a great way to start a Monday morning as we start preparing for up coming events
Hello Nick,
I just wanted to touch base with you and let you know how everything went on Saturday at the Baby Shower held at the Senior Center.
The servers went above and beyond, we cannot give them enough praise. They not only did a fantastic job but they helped us set up, they took such good care of my daughter who we held the shower for. They checked on her throughout the day, made sure she ate and while she was opening gifts they offered to bring her something to eat or drink. I was so impressed. The food was absolutely delicious! I remember one of the servers names was Dominique but I apologize..I was so busy I cannot remember the other servers name..I feel horrible. They were both so nice and did such a great job plus they did so much more. They cut our cake for us, helped put the tablecloths on the tables bc we were only given an hour to set up before the guests arrived and we had so much to do. I just wanted you to know that they were wonderful. Everything went so smoothly. The girls and I truly appreciate everything they did. Quite a few of the guests were asking who catered the Shower, they really enjoyed the food. I will be sure to recommend your catering company to my friends, family and anyone who inquires. I will be sure to call again if I need Catering Services in the future! Thank you so much for the spectacular service and the wonderful food!
Best Regards,
Debbie Phillips

d this today from a new corporate account we worked with for the 150th anniversary party
Our company used MEI to cater our sesquicentennial lunch celebration. The staff were kind, courteous & attentive. They set up, served the food & cleaned up afterwards. This allowed us to focus on other tasks, like preparing our raffle baskets. We were pleased with our order of Top Carved Beef, Roasted Chicken Pieces, Penne in Vodka Sauce, Red Skin Potatoes, Broccoli, salad & drinks. Everybody had a great time relaxing, having fun & enjoying the delicious food! Thank you, MEI Catering!
