It’s the last day of October, and I’m still riding my scooter! 🛴🍂

I will say, the battery life and acceleration aren’t nearly as good as they were back in May when I started using it as my commuter vehicle. 350 miles later. But Thursday through Sunday, my pickup sits at the Joint while I ride back and forth, enjoying Mother Nature as I cruise along. With views like this, it’s hard to complain.

Making that $125-ish truck fill-up happen a few less times a month is a nice bonus, too! 😂

We’re here 11–8 today, serving up pretzel roll cheesesteaks and more. Our website is finally back up and running!
👉 jaysjoint215.com

We’re also still hiring and trying to find that diamond in the rough! 💎 If you’re a short-order cook looking for a change of environment, come talk to me. Yes, they’re long days, but you get three days off a week!

Interested? Text me at 215-514-3172.

Tomorrow is Halloween, and I’ve always been a full-size candy bar house kinda guy. 🎃🍫

But honestly, this year I had sticker shock! $43.55 for 36 Butterfingers—that’s $1.21 a kid. For 75 kids, that’s over $90 just in candy! 😳

For the last week, I’ve been debating whether this is the year I become a regular fun-size candy house. Decisions, decisions… but either way, the staff gets the leftovers. 😂

What are you handing out this year?

Mrs. Jay’s is very proud of her Canva creations. She made three Halloween memes, and this one had me raising an eyebrow. 😂 I thought it looked a little inappropriate, but she said if I’d seen the movie, I’d get it. I’ll let you guys be the judge!

Meanwhile, our website has officially been down for over a week. Still having issues with the hosting company. Just my luck. But you can still order online at jaysjointmenu.com or come order at our patio kiosks!

We’re at the Joint 11–8 today, and the weather is supposed to be nice, so I’m rolling up some patio walls for lunch and put them down as the sun goes down. Come enjoy some fresh air, pretzel roll cheesesteaks, and more!

People often ask why I share our monthly food bank donations. Is it for attention or a pat on the back? No. It’s to make people aware that there is a need right here in our community.

This started back in 2014 during our Penndel days, with 25 cents from every pretzel roll sold. I would take a quarter out of the register and drop it into a jar on the counter. Customers could toss in their change or whatever they wanted to contribute. Each month, I’d take that money to my credit union and put it toward helping our local pantries.

That little jar grew into what we do today. Each month, I take 1% right off the top of our sales, add whatever donations come in, and buy protein. These days, that’s chicken breasts and leg quarters—whatever gives me the most bang for my buck so we can feed more people.

Over the years, we’ve been blessed with volunteers who give their time on the first Monday of each month at 9:30 a.m., and customers who donate cash and checks to help us do more.

Today was a special day. For the fourth straight year, a special customer who previously supported Preston & Steve’s Camp Out for Hunger chose to support our efforts. He knows his donation stays right here in his community, and he knows we provide protein—something our pantries struggle to get donated and often have to purchase themselves.

Now, this guy likes his B**r Dip made right: extra dip and extra onions to make it extra sloppy and delicious. Sometimes he walks around here like he owns the place, watching YouTube on our TV—with or without his kids. 😂 But every October, he makes my heart happy. His generosity means I know we’ll be helping at least 50 families during the holidays this year.

The extra donations this time of year go beyond our monthly chicken purchases. They help provide holiday meals and a little extra help for people I meet while visiting one of our pantries the week before the holidays.

This is why I share. You never know who might see a post and decide they can help, too.

It started with a quarter and a jar. It’s kept going because of this community. Thank you to everyone who has been part of it. ❤️

We’re back open, and it’s Halloween week! 🎃

I’ve always been the guy who hands out full-size candy bars, but this year I got some serious sticker shock when I saw what they cost. With three days left, I’ll either bite the bullet and buy the bars—or grab a few bags of the smaller candy that’s still way overpriced!

What candy do you give out?

We’re here 11–8 today and all weekend long. Our regular website is still down, but you can order online at jaysjointmenu.com or come order on the patio.

I’ve always been pretty much an open book. Some people might say I’m open to a fault, but to me, it’s just about being genuine and real in a dark world.

As much as I hate getting here before the sun on Thursdays, I do appreciate having a little more time on Wednesdays for personal and family things. Yesterday, I spent the day moving my aunt from one facility to another. Watching her disease slowly take its toll on a strong-minded woman I’ve known most of my life is a reminder that our time here is short. We only get one life.

For most of the last 20 years, I’ve put Jay’s before Jay. That’s not something I want to keep doing. When we reopened almost a year ago, the plan was never for me to work 50 hours a week at the Joint. The plan was to build a team that could share the work, so I could keep focusing on my health and wellness journey.

As I keep trying to build that team, I find myself wondering how long I should keep trying before I shut the restaurant down and go back to food-truck-only life. I know that would mean less money in my pocket, but life is about so much more than money—unless you’re a politician trying to get reelected.

I’m thankful for my three days of being unplugged, and I’m counting the hours until all the political stuff goes away until next year.

We’re back open today, serving pretzel-roll cheesesteaks and more.

Our next Food Bank Day is next Monday, November 2, and we could use some helping hands!

We’ll start setting up on Jay’s Joint patio at 9:15 a.m. and begin portioning chicken at 9:30 a.m. This is our last Food Bank Day before the election, and we’re keeping it simple: no mud, just extra chicken for local food pantries.

Thanks to an additional $160 in donations from customers who wanted to help, we expect to donate somewhere between 800 and 1,000 pounds of chicken quarters and breast this month. That means even more food for neighbors in need!

All we need is help portioning the chicken. Whether you’ve helped before or this would be your first time, you’re welcome to join us.

Thank you for helping us change the world one cheesesteak at a time. ❤️

After cleaning the ice cream machine, I did some yard work here at the Joint. While trimming my mom’s tree, I had a little ladybug visitor. 🐞

Now I’m heading home to knock a few more things off my to-do list, then spend some quality time with the person I miss most—even though we live together. Food truck life meant we got to spend a lot more time side by side. I miss those days.

Happy Monday, everyone! I hope to see you later this week for pretzel roll cheesesteaks and more!

The good thing is, Dr. D makes a pretty great roast beef! I’d make myself a roast beef hoagie (lettuce, tomatoes ,onions & oregano) on a pretzel roll with spicy brown mustard and either Swiss or provolone.

Right now, though, we’re giving Miss Gravy her fourth and final pills of the day, wrapped in a little roast beef. We start all over again at 5:45 tomorrow morning. We’ve tried everything, but roast beef seems to be her favorite way to take her medicine. Unfortunately, she’s gained another five pounds along the way! ❤️

Another week in the books, and we’re still looking to add to the team. Tomorrow is ice cream machine cleaning day, and we’ll be back Thursday serving pretzel roll cheesesteaks and more. Hope to see you then for pretzel roll cheesesteaks and more!

Getting ready for a non-Eagles Sunday at the Joint! We made a few extra gluten-free ice cream chocolate chip cookie sandwiches to make your day a little sweeter.

We’re here until 8, serving up pretzel roll cheesesteaks and more. Order online at jaysjointmenu.com or come place your order at the kiosk!

Two things people say you should never talk about are politics and religion. Yesterday, I talked politics. Today, I guess I’m going to talk religion—and probably p**s a few people off.

I didn’t grow up with religion playing a big part in my life. My parents told me I was Jewish, but we didn’t celebrate many religious holidays or practice much. Still, Jesus has been around me in one way or another for as long as I can remember: going to church on Saturdays to play football with my friend Jamie’s church group, or going to Christmas Eve Mass with the Buglars, my second family.

And for the last 15 years, Christian music has been part of my life, too. I may not be a traditional believer or follower, but those songs have stayed with me. I’ve always felt that trying to live like Jesus—leading with love, compassion, and kindness—couldn’t be a bad thing.

I remember debating religion with my dad and talking about the difference between Judaism and Christianity: Jews are waiting for the Messiah, while Christians believe he has come and are waiting for his return.

Maybe I don’t have all the answers. I just try to live with love and hope the rest comes together along the way. Maybe that makes me a lost soul in a cruel and ugly world. But I still believe showing love to everyone is a pretty good way to live.

And to those I offended with my political choices yesterday: I have nothing but love for all of you, even if the feeling isn’t mutual.

“It’s at the point where it’s almost not worth being in business,” I told CNN.

That quote is real, but it’s part of a longer conversation about how much operating costs have risen while sales haven’t kept pace. I was also explaining that an empty dining room at 5 p.m. doesn’t tell the whole story. About 90% of our business is takeout, and some of our gluten-free customers drive an hour to eat here. With gas and other costs rising, I’m seeing some regulars cut back on how often they visit.

The “they’re both idiots” quote came up while we were talking about my “more chicken, less mud” idea. I challenged Brian Fitzpatrick and Bob Harvie to put some of their campaign money toward helping the local community. They both declined. I was frustrated then, and I’m still frustrated as the attack mailers and texts keep coming.

Here’s the article for anyone who wants to read the full story:

Gluten-free Buffalo Chicken Cheesesteak on our regular GF roll! 🌶️

This one has a special place on our menu because it’s the one sandwich from our gluten-free kitchen that I eat myself. And I still love it after nearly 14 years.

When I was testing gluten-free rolls, I picked up three from the natural food store around the corner. I made a regular cheesesteak and a Buffalo chicken cheesesteak on an Against the Grain baguette, then let them sit under the heat lamp for 20 minutes. That was the only roll of the three that held up—and the Buffalo chicken cheesesteak became a sandwich I’ve kept coming back to ever since.

We’re here Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m.–8 p.m. Come enjoy one on the enclosed patio.
