We’re back at Future Days Beer Company Friday evening to kick off MDW from 6 pm - ? (we sold out in 90 min last time!) with a limited menu of Brisket à la carte, Brisket tacos, and Carnitas tortas. All the beers are amazing from the very light 2.9 ABV Ulysses to the 6.6 ABV Nightbird Black IPA (my personal fave—such a refreshing, flavorful beer). All on tap and available in crowlers.

Still Life with Brisket, No. 11. An occasional series when Cezanne grew tired of apples. Here we can see he was interested in sunlight, which we will hopefully have more of on Saturday than rain.
See you again for our full menu at The Mermaid Inn during the Chestnut Hill Farmers Market. Breakfast tacos starting at 9 and all the Tex-Mex BBQ hits from 10 - noon.

Let’s try this again and hope the weather is better this weekend (there’s a chance of some light rain but doesn’t look bad). See you again this Saturday, May 9 at The Mermaid Inn during the Chestnut Hill Farmers' Market with our full menu and all the Tex-Mex BBQ hits. Breakfast tacos starting at 9 and BBQ from 10 - noon.

What's that sweet, smoky aroma we smell???????? It's the smell of BURNT ENDS FRIDAY in the air. We're here wrapping 's beloved burnt ends up with egg + cheese or refried pinto beans + avocado until we're sold out!

It’s been sunny this week and we were hoping it would last until Saturday, but alas it looks like rain all weekend. Sorry to say we are canceling the pop-up this weekend, but running a small BBQ restaurant outdoors is really weather dependent (even with part of our operation in the kitchen of the Mermaid Inn).
But April showers bring May flowers as they say, and we will be back Sat May 9 in two weeks and then at Future Days Beer Company again Fri May 22 for MDW (and at Taco Heart every Friday for our weekly breakfast taco collab).

After two blizzards and two months of hibernation aside from a few indoor events, we’re looking forward to spring and being back at The Mermaid Inn during the Chestnut Hill Farmers' Market next weekend, Sat March 14 with our full menu. The market is still officially on winter hours from 10 am - noon until May, so we will have BBQ available then but breakfast tacos will be available starting at 9 when you can also place an order to pick up later.
Looking ahead, we’ll be back at Future Days Beer Company on Fri, March 27 with a limited menu from 6 - 9 pm.

Next Friday the 13th 🔪 😱 we will be at the historic The Mermaid Inn with a limited menu of brisket à la carte, brisket cheesesteaks, Carnitas tortas, and sides of our slaw, rice and beans, and a new potato salad while a great local band plays that evening. This has been our home base for 4+ years, but we are usually outside during the farmers market, not inside!

Thanks to everyone who came to our pop up at Future Days Beer Company on Saturday evening including the great .and.protein.shakes who made this cool reel. As he notes, it looks like we will be there more often—once a month there and once a month at the Mermaid Inn during the Chestnut Hill farmers market when spring and warmer weather return.

If 2025 was a disaster on many fronts starting on January 20 it also had many beautiful moments of people still finding ways to come together through food and community. Here are our top 20. Happy new year🥂✨

Last event of the year! This Saturday, Dec 13 from 1 pm - sell out at Future Days Beer Company for Day 4 of their one year anniversary weeklong celebrations and the release of our Smoked Helles beer collab with Tex-Mex BBQ.
It was great to see those who braved the cold and snow flurries on Saturday at the Mermaid Inn during the Chestnut Hill farmers market (and much respect to the intrepid vendors who show up in winter), but we’ve decided we will NOT be coming back Dec 20 due to the colder weather and snow in the forecast next week.
While we will be hibernating from the market til spring stay tuned for more indoor events in Jan-Feb, and of course you’ll still be able to get smoked brisket burnt ends in breakfast tacos every Friday at Taco Heart for our weekly collab into 2026.

We’re back this weekend with a limited menu of breakfast tacos, brisket by the pound, brisket cheesesteaks, queso puffs, and pozole rojo with smoked pork, but with a cold front rolling into town this week we’re moving indoors like we did last December.
You’ll see our tent in the driveway of The Mermaid Inn Saturday from 9-noon during the Chestnut Hill Farmers' Market and a sign pointing you to the red front doors of the Mermaid where our smiling FOH will take your order and expediter extraordinaire will get it right out. You’ll be able to peek inside the Mermaid if you’ve never been (they’re open Thurs-Sat with concerts and a full bar—check the calendar on their website). We’re also exploring more events at the Mermaid this winter with indoor seating when serving food outside is too cold, so stay tuned.
We’ll be back once more this year on Dec 20 with full menu (possibly outside if warmer then) and of course every Friday at Taco Heart for our weekly breakfast taco collab.

So nice to say hello last week in Austin to a pioneer who was a major inspiration for North By Texas and Tex-Mex BBQ, pitmaster formerly of and who has teamed up with his college buddy Simon Madera of and on Churchrow Tejas BBQ which opened in late October in North Austin off of Woodrow Ave (where numerous churches lined the block, thus “Church Row”) and Anderson Ln. With a full bar inside, outdoor seating, playground, and pitroom with two 1000 gallon from the previous tenants the stage is set for the return of one of the best in Texas.

Special thanks to Matt and Kim Vendeville at Cider Belly for hosting and coming up with some delicious and thoughtful cider pairings, and for their pro help with prep and service, my kindred spirit and friends Nano at Taco Heart and his wife and fellow Texan (who has a breakfast taco named after her!), the incredibly nice and supportive Philly food community including and chef and fellow Texan who told me I should do a BBQ omakase someday, to longtime patrons and friends, for the great 📸 shots, and especially to my love for logistics, planning, and saving the day/night as “brisket rescuer” more than once when I doze off.
Stay tuned, as we’ll probably do this again in winter. Cheers
