“Since October, patrons at Forsythia have been scribbling tales of shape-shifting dragons and forlorn astronauts inside a tiny notebook. They’re all, amazingly, part of the same story, one that comes with its own craft cocktail.” - Kristin Hunt from
Our cocktail The Story is only available at happy hour only at the bar. What started as a collaborative mini-novel in October is quickly reaching its last empty pages. Will you be the one to finish our first Story? Stop by, order the drink, and flex those story telling muscles. 🥃📕

Our Duck for Two is baring its feathers for a stripped-down, unseen view of what makes our signature dish so special. 🦆🌟
It starts with a dry spice blend of Szechuan, lavender, and coriander. Next, our wings get a lacquering of honey fresh from the honeycomb. 🍗🍯
Bing cherries and dried Asian pears are poached in hibiscus and vanilla, while a vin de prunes sauce simmers on the side. Fiddlehead ferns and grilled ramps complete the dish for a local, seasonal touch. 🍒🌱
If you’ve been eyeing the duck on previous visits or not sure what to order this weekend: this is your sign. Get the duck, and consider yourself lucky. 🍽️💫

Last but certainly not least to meet, Chris Harrop! 🍹
Chris has been the bar manager at Forsythia for a little over a year now. He came in with a passion and energy that translates to crushable cocktails and imaginative interpretations. He’s quick with the comebacks and knows how to make you feel like family from the first visit forward. (Psst- ask him about his house made amaros!) 🥃✨
Clues on Chris:
🍴Best Bite: Cream Chipped Beef from a Jersey Diner 🍖
“It reminds me of my family and togetherness. It feels like everything comes back to that: a feeling of home & memories.”
🌾 What brought him to Forsythia: Chris was always an admirer from afar of Chef Kearse’s talent and ambition. When a positioned opened for our bar manager, he excitedly jumped in to work alongside Chef. Together, the drinks complement the food by using similar ingredients and techniques shared in house. 🤝

Up to bat on staff: Devon Kaszan! 🪄
Devon is our in-house Jane of all trades. For the last 4 years, she’s been serving the dining room, organizing staff events, bartending the weekends, hanging Christmas lights— you name it! She’s also our media, photo, and graphics coordinator! 💻🎨
Deets on Devon:
🍴Best Bite: Sweet Potato Dumpling from Brussels 🍠
“It was my first Thanksgiving away from my family. The dumpling was included in a tasting menu that instantly made me feel at home. New traditions were created that year!”
🌾 What brought her to Forsythia: As a long standing patron of the industry nights, she seized the opportunity when a job opening became available online. Devon was temporarily living abroad in France at the time, and came back to work here and keep the Francophile spirit alive! 🇫🇷

Today we’re meeting Mariah Bing! 🥄
Mariah is our AM Sous Chef, holding things down in the early hours before opening to make sure service is ready to go! You can taste the love and care in every dish she makes, and that makes all the difference. You’ll always hear her laughing or singing throughout the kitchen 🎶
🍴Best Bite: Pastrami Sandwich from Hershel’s in Reading Terminal Market 🥪
“I’m a sandwich girl. I’ve tried every sandwich at Hershel’s and this is just a classic pastrami. 100% perfect hit.”
🌾 What brought her to Forsythia: Mariah took this job without knowing too much about the restaurant. When she saw the old school techniques, from-scratch cooking, and butchering styles, she knew she made the right choice. 📚

The Goods on Grant:
🍴Best Bite: Soup dumpling from Dim Sum Garden 🥟
“I never had one before I moved to Philly. Been a regular there since. Dim sum in general reminds me of growing up back in New Jersey, doing Sunday dim sum with the family.”
🌾 What brought him to Forsythia: A craving to learn more French techniques and cooking, old school and new, from Chef. It’s a nice bonus he’s worked with Brad and Chris [our bar manager] before and knows how dedicated they are to their craft. 💛
