If you know us at all, it should come as no surprise that we stand in solidarity with the protests happening across the country today. They say actions speak louder than words, but words are important too. Having already lost a day of business this week to the weather, it is unsustainable for us as a small business to lose another one by closing today (and our wonderful staff cannot afford not to work). So we will remain open. But a reminder that today, and every day, we are here for our community as a safe space to gather and enjoy a free cuppa - everyone is welcome even if you don’t want to buy anything - watch the telly or just hang out.
Thank you. 🫶🏻

We survived the storm and are back today with loads of great stuff for lunch!!!

I rarely wash mushrooms, but I wanted to present to you these beautiful black trumpets at the zenith of their quality, so I spent lots of time last night rinsing them in plenty of changes of water before carefully drying them in a very low oven. They will be featured throughout the coming days, beginning with this rich and earthy venison shepherd’s pie, along with roasted chestnuts, red wine gravy and fluffy mash with a cheeky extra little k**b of butter. We also have haggis clangers paired with apple & apricot, more of those biscoff mousse pies and so much more. Come on by!!!

After much tooing and froing, we’ve made the call to be closed tomorrow to allow everyone to stay safe if it’s as bad as they’re predicting. Watch us get about an inch and a half now 😬

However, we have stocked up the retail fridge and freezer with all sorts of goodies which you are cordially invited to ransack today to stock up for the storm. We are open until 4pm - check out the freezer section on our website for the updated inventory!

Okay. I have to make around 70 pounds of haggis over the next week for two separate events. So I figured why not make a bit more since the Burns Supper sold out in like a day? 🤯

I just stocked the freezer up this morning with a bunch of these haggis dinners for two. These are fully cooked and packaged in oven-safe containers with instructions, so all you have to do is heat and serve.

Includes 2 full pounds of food:
-Two 5oz portions of our 100% lamb haggis made with toasted steel-cut oats, onions and spices
8oz of buttered neeps
10oz of mashed tatties
4oz of our whisky mustard sauce with prunes

If you missed out on a reservation, come and grab one of these so you can still enjoy the festivities at home! Also, if you want to go a step further I will be happy to make you a whole haggis (stuffed in a stomach) on request - just slide into the ol’ DMs!

Okay here it is…
Last year we all had so much fun finally doing a Burns Night here at the shop. But we could only seat 10 people per seating so we all agreed that we would have to move it to Enswell next time so lots more of you could enjoy the festivities. Well, next time is almost upon us, and we are so excited to share that bookings are now live for Sunday, January 25. Two seatings, 5pm & 7pm. There will be poetry, theatre, live piping and other merriment, not to mention haggis and lots of other scrumptious food and spectacular whisky cocktails. Do. Not. Miss. This.

For more details and to book your spot, head over to ’s website. But don’t wait. This is going to be sold out before you can say “Och aye, the noo”!

Some great new menu additions today…

If you love Lotus Biscoff in all forms even half as much as I do, then this is the treat for you - light and creamy biscoff mousse in a biscoff cookie crust, topped with cookie crumble and a drizzle of melted cookie butter before being finished with a decadent square of Cadbury Dairy Milk Biscoff chocolate. Insane!

Also, we have a venison version of our shepherd’s pie this week - cooked in red wine and venison stock with smoked bacon lardons, balsamic-braised red cabbage and a touch of winter spice. This is topped with buttery root vegetable mash and it’s hot and ready for you right now!

It’s a beautiful crisp last Sunday roast day of the year and it’s ready a little early!!! We’ve got bone-in standing rib roast with Yorkshire pudding, crispy beef fat garlic roasties, honey-glazed parsnips, Brussels sprouts with bacon, sage, onion and chestnut stuffing, horseradish sauce and as always, lashings of hot, meaty gravy!

We’ve also got Not Gregg’s steak bakes back on the menu as well as plenty of pies, pasties, sausage rolls and individual banoffee pie cups!

Check story for link to order a roast (but we should have plenty for walk-in too) - rest of menu is walk-in only today - come and enjoy with a free cuppa!

So this standing rib roast we’re offering…

Fully trimmed and tied, studded with fresh garlic and dressed for your oven in a brand new stainless steel pan with a rack which is yours to keep. I was testing one of these in my home oven over the weekend (for the purposes of giving you accurate cooking instructions, not because I wanted to eat it, believe! 🤭) and I made a glorious discovery…on a whim, I set it on a trivet of Mighty Bread sourdough, which soaked up the beefy juices while it cooked, yielding the most spectacularly crispy on the bottom and moist on the top bread & dripping that you could imagine and which would make a northern granny’s eyes weep with joy. So that is how it will be set up for all orders. We still have a few of these available in both sizes. You can order for Christmas, new year’s or anytime really… It’s not bad, I tell ya 🐮🇬🇧👌🏼

Oh hi, me again!
Just a few notes about holiday ordering in case anyone needs clarification:
-We are currently accepting orders for our Christmas/December specials stuff and other preorder items for ANY DAY EXCEPT MONDAYS THROUGH NEW YEARS EVE. You can schedule for Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve or whenever you like.
-Our system is not set up to accept orders for Tuesdays. If you would like a Tuesday pickup (12/23 or 12/30), please add a note at checkout and I will adjust manually.
-Certain items have longer lead time requirements than others. If you are having trouble ordering for the day you want, check the lead times - removing something from your cart might get you a sooner pickup day, but most items are available for next day at this point. Please message if you encounter any problems.
Thanks, carry on!
